Yep, no trench crusade here (yet…), but I wanted to regroup some of minis together, so here comes my brilliant(…) idea: regroup on a small board my ~500pts of Ultramarines and Tyranids.
Two main sourcesof inspiration for this: Black Magic Craft and Eric’s Hobby Workshop.
List of ideas for the future
- Add probably one or 2 bridges.
- Add resin printed sandbags.
- Maybe add some of theses stars (knife rests, or frizzian horses).
- Add one bunker with a flat roof, either 3D printed or like that.

OK this is weird, it should have been brown but I did not put enough brown paint in my weird caulking mixture, so it’s… orange? Pink? Salmon? Some heavy brown overbrush/drybrush and wash will be needed.
My plan here was:
- build trenches large enough for 1-2 minis side by side, but not too large so that tanks can ride over them. 5cm is perfect (I think).
- Saw an old crappy half broken furniture that I was going to throw away, use it as a base, glue some XPS with PVA glue over it, and cover everything with a mixture of brown paint, acrylic caulking, sand, IPA, water and filler. 6h later it’s still not wet at all… not sure it was a great idea, we’ll see later.
- Put some tongue depressors to act as beam, corregated paper (covered by black mod podge than sprayed gray) as metal sheets on the walls, and coffee stirsticks on the floor.

This is the global layout I have in mind, 60*30cm, that allows to showcase both armies together.
